Best Budget Smartwatch to Buy: Oraimo Watch 5 Lite vs itel Smartwatch Storm Plus

You don't need to spend hundreds of thousands of naira to get a smartwatch capable of handling calls, notifications and basic fitness tracking.

The Oraimo Watch 5 Lite OSW-804 and itel Smartwatch Storm Plus ISW-015 are two particularly interesting budget choices. Both feature large 2.01-inch displays, Bluetooth calling, heart-rate and blood-oxygen monitoring, IP68 protection and multi-day battery life. The differences become clearer once you look at fitness features, software and pricing.

Some Storm Plus specifications come from retailer listings rather than itel's shorter official product description.

Display: Almost a Tie

Both watches provide a 2.01-inch screen, which is generous at this price.

The Watch 5 Lite uses a 240 × 280 TFT touchscreen, while the Storm Plus is with a 2.01-inch HD IPS display and up to 500 nits brightness on current retailer listings. Neither is AMOLED, so don't expect the deep blacks and premium Always-On Display experience found on more expensive smartwatches.

For notifications, menus, calls and checking workout statistics, however, either should be adequate.

Winner: Tie

Oraimo Has Better Fitness Features

This is where the Watch 5 Lite begins pulling ahead. Oraimo provides 100+ sports modes, alongside heart-rate, blood-oxygen, sleep, stress and women's-health tracking. Data and customization are handled through the Oraimo Health app.

The Storm Plus covers the essentials, including heart rate, SpO₂, sleep, steps and calorie tracking. Retail listings advertise numerous sports modes, but itel's own store doesn't provide the same detailed fitness specification.

Neither has advertised standalone GPS, meaning serious runners who want accurate route tracking without carrying a phone should look further upmarket. Health readings from either watch should also be considered general wellness information rather than medical measurements.

Winner: Oraimo Watch 5 Lite

Both Can Make Bluetooth Calls

You can answer and make calls from either watch while connected to a compatible smartphone. That's useful while exercising, cooking or when your phone is sitting across the room. Neither is a cellular smartwatch, however. There's no advertised SIM or eSIM support, so Bluetooth calling still depends on the paired smartphone being nearby. The Storm Plus additionally advertises an AI voice assistant, while Oraimo puts more emphasis on AI-generated watch faces and customization.

Winner: Tie

Battery Life Is Very Similar

Oraimo equips the Watch 5 Lite with a 300mAh battery and advertises up to seven days of moderate use and more than 28 days on standby.
The Storm Plus similarly advertises up to seven days of use and around 30 days standby.
Actual endurance will depend heavily on Bluetooth calls, screen usage, health monitoring and notifications. Either way, both have a major advantage over premium smartwatches that may require charging every day or two.

Winner: Tie

Which Is Cheaper?

Pricing makes this comparison interesting. The Watch 5 Lite has recently been available from around ₦15,005, although other sellers can charge as much as ₦25,000.
itel's own online store currently prices the Storm Plus at ₦22,000. Marketplace discounts have taken it down to roughly ₦15,850–₦15,950, although other sellers charge considerably more.
At around ₦15,000–₦16,000, either watch is excellent value. If both cost roughly the same, however, Oraimo offers more clearly documented fitness features.

Which Should Students Buy?

I'd choose the Oraimo Watch 5 Lite. Students get Bluetooth calls, notifications, basic health monitoring, long battery life and 100+ sports modes without spending heavily.
The Storm Plus remains an excellent alternative, particularly if you find it below Oraimo's price.
For a first smartwatch, both provide most of the functionality a student is likely to use.

Limitations

Neither watch has AMOLED, standalone GPS or cellular connectivity. Their health sensors aren't substitutes for medical equipment, and their inexpensive construction won't feel like an Apple Watch or premium Galaxy Watch.
The IP68 rating is useful for sweat, rain and everyday water exposure, but shouldn't automatically be interpreted as making either watch suitable for every swimming, showering or high-pressure-water situation. Those compromises are reasonable considering how inexpensive these watches are.

Final Verdict

  • Oraimo Watch 5 Lite — 8.7/10: Best Overall Budget Pick

  • itel Smartwatch Storm Plus — 8.4/10: Best Alternative

This is much closer than the prices suggest. The itel Storm Plus delivers an impressive package for its official ₦22,000 price: a large 2.01-inch display, Bluetooth calling, heart-rate and SpO₂ monitoring, sleep tracking, IP68 protection and multi-day battery life.

But the Oraimo Watch 5 Lite is our overall winner. Its 100+ sports modes, stress tracking, women's-health features, 120+ watch faces, Oraimo Health app and AI watch-face support give it a slightly broader feature set.

The buying rule is simple: if both are around the same price, buy the Oraimo Watch 5 Lite. If the Storm Plus is significantly cheaper during a promotion, however, it becomes an excellent alternative for someone primarily interested in calls, notifications and basic fitness tracking.

For a budget of roughly ₦15,000–₦25,000, these are two of the more compelling entry-level smartwatches to consider.
