Google Pixel 10 Review: Price, Specs & AI Features

The Google Pixel 10 isn't trying to win the smartphone race purely through processor benchmarks or enormous battery capacity. Google's biggest selling point is AI that is deeply integrated into the phone and its operating system.

Powered by the Tensor G5 processor and Gemini Nano, the Pixel 10 introduces features such as Magic Cue, Camera Coach and Voice Translate alongside Gemini Live and Google's established computational-photography tools. You also get something previously missing from Google's standard Pixel: a dedicated 5x telephoto camera.

But with Nigerian prices starting around ₦890,000, is the Pixel 10 worth buying?

6.3-Inch 120Hz OLED Display

The Pixel 10 uses a 6.3-inch Actua OLED display with a resolution of 1080 × 2424 pixels. It supports an adaptive 60–120Hz refresh rate and reaches up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, making outdoor visibility one of its strengths. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects both the display and polished rear glass. At 6.3 inches, it is also relatively compact compared with the huge 6.7- and 6.9-inch displays now common on flagship Android phones.

That makes the Pixel 10 particularly attractive if you want flagship features without carrying an enormous smartphone.

Tensor G5: Built Around AI

At the centre of the Pixel 10 is Google Tensor G5. Rather than focusing solely on raw CPU and GPU performance, Google designed Tensor around photography, security and artificial intelligence. Google says Tensor G5 was developed alongside Google DeepMind and is the first Tensor chip capable of running its newest Gemini Nano model. For normal use, 12GB RAM provides plenty of room for multitasking, while storage choices are 128GB or 256GB.

Heavy gamers may still find phones built specifically around top-end gaming performance more appealing, but Pixel's strength is how its hardware works with Google's software and AI.

Gemini Is Built Into the Pixel 10

Gemini is one of the biggest differences between the Pixel 10 and a conventional Android smartphone. With Gemini Live, you can have a conversational interaction with Google's AI assistant rather than repeatedly typing individual prompts. It can also work with what you're looking at through the camera or what's displayed on your screen.

For example, you could point the camera at an unfamiliar object and ask Gemini about it, show it something you're trying to repair, or discuss information displayed on your screen.

Useful Gemini Live use cases include:

  • Explaining something you're looking at

  • Brainstorming ideas while walking

  • Getting help understanding documents or onscreen information

  • Asking follow-up questions naturally

  • Getting assistance across supported Google apps

  • Learning about objects and places through the camera

This makes AI feel less like a separate chatbot app and more like another way of interacting with your smartphone.

Magic Cue May Be the Pixel 10's Most Useful AI Feature

Magic Cue is arguably more interesting than simply having a chatbot. It connects information across supported apps such as Gmail, Calendar, Messages and Screenshots and attempts to surface useful information when you actually need it.

Imagine your friend sends:

What's your flight arrival time?

Instead of closing Messages, opening Gmail, finding your booking confirmation, copying the time and returning to the conversation, Magic Cue can recognize what you need, find the relevant itinerary information and suggest it inside Messages.

Similarly, if you call your airline, Pixel can surface relevant flight details. That is the kind of AI feature that could genuinely save time because it reduces jumping between apps.

Voice Translate for Phone Calls

The Pixel 10 can also use on-device AI for real-time voice translation during phone calls. Google says Voice Translate can translate between English and supported languages including Spanish, German, Japanese, French, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Russian and Indonesian. Rather than simply playing an obviously synthetic translation, Google says the system attempts to preserve characteristics of each person's voice. This could be particularly useful for international travellers, businesses dealing with overseas customers or families communicating across different languages.

Language and regional availability should still be checked before buying specifically for this feature.

Camera Coach Helps You Take Better Photos

AI is also heavily involved in the camera. The Pixel 10 has three rear cameras:

48MP main + 13MP ultrawide + 10.8MP 5x telephoto

The telephoto provides 5x optical zoom, while Google's Super Res Zoom extends digital reach to 20x. The new Camera Coach feature uses Gemini models to analyze what you're trying to photograph and suggest ways to improve the shot. Instead of simply correcting the image after you take it, Camera Coach can help with things such as framing and composition while you're taking the photo.

That could be useful for casual photographers who want better pictures but don't understand manual camera settings or composition techniques.

AI Photo Editing

Google also continues to push computational photography after you've taken the picture.

Pixel 10 includes tools such as:

  • Magic Eraser

  • Best Take

  • Photo Unblur

  • Zoom Enhance

  • Reimagine

  • Auto Frame

  • Portrait Blur

  • Ask Photos editing

Google's official specifications also list Edit with Ask Photos, allowing supported edits to be requested conversationally rather than manually navigating every editing control. For content creators and frequent smartphone photographers, these tools are arguably as important as the camera hardware itself.

Battery Life and Pixelsnap

The Pixel 10 contains a 4,970mAh typical battery. It has more than 24 hours of battery life under its testing and up to 100 hours using Extreme Battery Saver. Fast charging can take the battery to around 55% in approximately 30 minutes using a compatible 30W USB-C PPS charger or higher.

There's also Pixelsnap wireless charging, Google's Qi2 magnetic charging system, supporting up to 15W on the Pixel 10. That magnetic design is particularly convenient for charging stands and compatible accessories because the phone can align itself with the charger.

Call Assist and Take a Message

Pixel's AI isn't limited to photography and Gemini. Google's Call Assist tools are designed to reduce some of the annoyances associated with phone calls. The Pixel 10 generation introduced Take a Message, which can provide real-time transcripts when you miss or decline a call. AI can then identify potentially useful next steps from the message. This can be particularly useful during meetings, while driving or whenever answering immediately isn't practical.

Who Should Buy the Google Pixel 10?

The Pixel 10 makes the most sense for photography enthusiasts who want Google's computational photography combined with a proper telephoto camera. It is also an excellent choice for AI-heavy users who actually want to use Gemini for work, research, communication and everyday tasks. For travellers, Voice Translate, strong cameras, long software support and Gemini Live are particularly attractive. And for someone switching from an iPhone to Android, Pixel offers one of the cleanest Android experiences while Google's migration tools make transferring data considerably easier than in the past.

Pros

  • Excellent 6.3-inch 120Hz OLED display

  • Very bright 3,000-nit peak brightness

  • Tensor G5 with on-device AI

  • Gemini and Gemini Live

  • Useful Magic Cue feature

  • 5x optical telephoto camera

  • Camera Coach

  • Powerful AI photo editing

  • Pixelsnap Qi2 wireless charging

  • IP68 protection

  • Seven years of software support

  • 12GB RAM standard

Cons

  • Expensive in Nigeria

  • 128GB may feel limited at this price

  • No microSD expansion

  • Wired charging is slower than many competing Android flagships

  • Some AI features depend on language and region

  • Charger isn't included in the box

Should You Buy the Google Pixel 10?

At approximately ₦890,000–₦990,000, the Pixel 10 isn't cheap. But you're buying more than conventional smartphone specifications. Its biggest strength is the combination of Gemini, Magic Cue, Camera Coach, computational photography and Google's own Android software. If you rarely use AI and mainly care about gaming performance, enormous batteries or extremely fast charging, competing Android phones may offer better hardware value.

But if you want a smartphone where AI is genuinely integrated into everyday activities rather than simply appearing as another pre-installed app, the Pixel 10 is one of the strongest options available.

Final Verdict

The Google Pixel 10 is an excellent all-round Android flagship, particularly for photography, AI and buyers who value long software support. The addition of a 5x telephoto camera fixes one of the biggest limitations of previous standard Pixels, while Tensor G5 enables increasingly useful AI experiences such as Magic Cue, Gemini Live, Camera Coach and Voice Translate.

At ₦890,000 for the 128GB model on a current Jumia listing, it is expensive, but it offers many of Google's most important flagship features without requiring you to move up to the more costly Pixel 10 Pro. For anyone who wants a compact premium Android phone with excellent cameras and some of the deepest AI integration available on a smartphone, the Pixel 10 is easy to recommend.
