Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro Review: A Smaller Ultra Without the S Pen: What You Should Expect

Samsung appears to be preparing a new member of its flagship Galaxy S family. The Galaxy S27 Pro is expected to sit between the regular Galaxy S27 and the much larger Galaxy S27 Ultra, giving buyers a more powerful alternative without requiring them to carry Samsung's biggest phone. The important thing to remember is that the Galaxy S27 Pro has not officially launched yet. The specifications discussed here are based on leaked CAD renders and reports, so Samsung could still change some hardware before release.

The leaked design suggests a phone measuring approximately 154.06 × 73.77 × 7.95mm, with a display around 6.6 inches. It also appears to borrow the new camera-island design expected on the S27 Ultra.

A Smaller Alternative to the Galaxy S27 Ultra

The biggest appeal of the Galaxy S27 Pro could be its position in Samsung's lineup. The Ultra models are designed for people who want practically everything Samsung can put into a smartphone. They are also larger and heavier. The S27 Pro, however, is expected to measure about 154mm tall and 74mm wide, with a roughly 6.6-inch display. That makes it considerably more manageable while still offering high-end hardware. The phone reportedly won't have an S Pen, which is one of the major differences between it and the Ultra.

For Nigerians who want a premium Samsung phone for everyday use, photography, social media, gaming and business without carrying an Ultra-sized device, this could be an attractive middle ground.

200MP Camera Could Be the Biggest Upgrade

Samsung is reportedly considering a 200MP main camera for the Galaxy S27 Pro, alongside a 50MP ultrawide and 12MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. If those specifications make it into the final product, the S27 Pro would be much closer to the Ultra in camera hardware than Samsung's conventional base model. That matters for African users who increasingly use their smartphones for content creation, business advertising, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and photo.

A proper telephoto camera is also useful for photographing events, people and subjects from a distance without relying entirely on digital zoom. However, megapixels alone don't determine camera quality. Samsung's image processing, sensor size, optical stabilisation and software will ultimately determine how good the camera performs.

5,200mAh Battery Could Help

Another interesting specification is the expected 5,200mAh battery. For a flagship with a 6.6-inch display, that could provide a useful balance between performance and battery life. Heavy users running 5G, navigation, gaming, video streaming and social media will still drain the battery quickly, but a larger battery gives Samsung more room to manage those workloads.

The larger capacity could also make the S27 Pro more attractive in Nigeria, where many users deal with long periods away from reliable charging.

Snapdragon or Exynos?

This is still one of the biggest unanswered questions. The S27 Pro is expected to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, although Samsung could use its own Exynos 2700 in certain markets. This distinction matters because Samsung has historically used different processors depending on the region.

For Nigerian buyers, the processor inside locally imported models will be something worth checking carefully before purchasing. Two phones carrying the same Galaxy S27 Pro name could potentially have different chipsets depending on the market.

Expected Nigerian Price

There is no official Nigerian price yet. If Samsung increases the price of its flagship range again, the Galaxy S27 Pro could become a ₦1.8 million to ₦2.1 million smartphone depending on storage, taxes, exchange rates and Nigerian retailer margins.

For context, the current USD/NGN market is around ₦1,340–₦1,350 to the dollar, although the final Nigerian retail price will depend on considerably more than a simple currency conversion.

That means Nigerian buyers should not interpret the estimated price as Samsung's official local MSRP.

When Will Galaxy S27 Pro Launch?

Samsung's traditional Galaxy S launch schedule has often placed new S-series devices around the beginning of the year. Current reports point toward a February 2027 announcement, although Samsung has not officially confirmed the date.

That gives the company several months to finalize the hardware.

Should Nigerians Wait for the Galaxy S27 Pro?

If you need a flagship phone immediately, there is little reason to wait for an unannounced device. But if you're planning a major smartphone upgrade in early 2027, the S27 Pro could be one of Samsung's most interesting models.

It potentially combines the Ultra's premium camera philosophy with a smaller body, a 5,200mAh battery and flagship-level processing. The biggest concern will probably be price. If Samsung pushes the Nigerian price beyond ₦2 million, buyers will have to decide whether the additional camera hardware and performance justify the premium over existing Galaxy S models.

Our verdict

The Galaxy S27 Pro looks promising, but it is too early to call it a confirmed winner. The leaked 6.6-inch display, 200MP camera, 5,200mAh battery and flagship Snapdragon processor would make it a serious premium smartphone. Its biggest advantage could be offering an Ultra-like experience without the Ultra's size or S Pen.

For Nigerian buyers, however, price and processor availability will ultimately determine whether it becomes a great buy or simply another expensive flagship.

All Galaxy S27 Pro specifications, launch timing and Nigerian pricing in this article should be treated as leaks or estimates until Samsung officially announces the phone.
