TECNO CAMON 50 Pro Review: Price, Specs, Features and Camera

The Tecno CAMON 50 Pro is built around something many mid-range smartphones still struggle to deliver: a genuinely versatile camera system. Instead of pairing one useful main camera with low-resolution secondary sensors, Tecno gives the CAMON 50 Pro a 50MP Sony main camera with OIS, 50MP 3x telephoto and 8MP ultrawide, backed by AI photography features including up to 60x SuperZoom.

Add a 144Hz 1.5K curved AMOLED display, 6,150mAh battery, 45W charging, IP68/IP69 protection and Android 16-based HiOS 16, and this is one of Tecno's more ambitious upper-mid-range phones.

50MP Sony Camera With OIS

Photo is where the CAMON 50 Pro gets serious. The primary camera uses a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C sensor measuring 1/1.56 inches, paired with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization. OIS helps compensate for small hand movements, particularly when taking photographs in lower light.

Tecno calls this its Ultra Night Camera and combines the hardware with computational photography to improve nighttime images. For everyday photography, the large main sensor should be useful for people photographing friends, events, food, street scenes and social-media content.

A Proper 50MP 3x Telephoto Camera

The telephoto camera may actually be the more interesting feature. You get a dedicated 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, an f/2.4 aperture and a 70mm-equivalent focal length. That's significantly more useful than the 2MP macro and depth cameras often added to less expensive smartphones simply to increase the camera count. The 3x focal length is particularly useful for portraits because it allows you to stand farther from your subject while producing a more flattering perspective.

Tecno then combines the telephoto hardware with AI to provide up to 60x SuperZoom. You shouldn't expect 60x digital images to look like genuine 60x optical photography, but the extended zoom can be useful for identifying distant subjects.

8MP Ultrawide and 32MP Selfie Camera

Completing the rear system is an 8MP ultrawide camera with a 112-degree field of view. This is useful when photographing buildings, landscapes, groups of people or anything that won't comfortably fit inside the main camera's frame. On the front is a 32MP selfie camera, which should provide enough resolution for selfies, video calls and social-media content.

Tecno also includes features such as Live Photo, Best Moment 2.0, AI Auto Zoom and Super-Zoom FlashSnap. AI Auto Zoom can identify subjects such as people, pets and birds before creating alternative crops and compositions from the photograph.

6.78-Inch 144Hz Curved AMOLED Display

The CAMON 50 Pro uses a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. That is an impressive display specification for this price category. AMOLED provides deep blacks and strong contrast, while the 1208 × 2644 resolution gives the screen more detail than conventional FHD+ panels.

The 144Hz refresh rate makes animations and scrolling exceptionally smooth, while compatible games can also take advantage of higher frame rates. Tecno describes it as a ProXDR Eye-care Display and lists touch sampling as high as 2,800Hz under supported scenarios.

Helio G200 Ultimate Performance

The CAMON 50 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio G200 Ultimate. This is important because buyers may encounter listings describing the phone as 5G. Tecno Nigeria's official specification page lists 2G, 3G and 4G — not 5G.

Performance should nevertheless be more than adequate for social media, photography, streaming, multitasking and mainstream mobile gaming. Tecno also includes its Frozen Cooling Pro System, using a multi-layer thermal structure to help move heat away during sustained workloads. The phone comes with 8GB physical RAM plus up to 8GB extended memory and 256GB storage in the Nigerian configuration.

6,150mAh Battery and 45W Charging

Battery life should be another strong point. Tecno Nigeria specifies a large 6,150mAh battery with 45W Super Charge. Tecno also claims its battery technology is designed for long-term durability, with the global model rated to retain more than 80% capacity after 1,800 charging cycles under its testing conditions.

A battery this large should comfortably support a full day for many users, although actual endurance will depend on screen brightness, gaming, cameras, network conditions and whether you regularly use the 144Hz refresh rate.

TECNO AI Features

The CAMON 50 Pro isn't relying exclusively on hardware. A dedicated One-Tap AI Key provides quick access to TECNO's AI functionality. Features include AI Flare Remover, AI Reflection Remover and AI Shadow Remover, which are designed to clean unwanted elements from photographs. There's also an AI Image-to-Video Generator, AI Notes for YouTube videos, AI Suggestions, AI MindHub and an upgraded Ella assistant. Tecno notes that some AI capabilities may arrive through software updates and can vary by country.

Transfer Files From an iPhone With a Tap

One particularly interesting feature for iPhone owners is iPhone One-Tap Drop. Tecno says the CAMON 50 series can use NFC for back-to-back file transfers with compatible Apple devices. That doesn't turn the phone into an AirDrop-compatible iPhone, but it could make sharing supported files between the two ecosystems considerably easier. The phone also includes NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, FM radio, USB-C and OTG.

Serious Water and Dust Resistance

TECNO gives the CAMON 50 Pro IP68, IP69 and IP69K protection under controlled testing. IP68 testing covers dust resistance and immersion up to two metres for 30 minutes under TECNO's stated laboratory conditions, while IP69/IP69K addresses high-pressure and high-temperature water jets. Tecno even advertises an underwater photography mode.

However, the company specifically warns that water resistance isn't permanent and recommends avoiding intentional submersion. Liquid damage is also not necessarily covered by warranty.

TECNO CAMON 50 Pro Price in Nigeria

The best price from major Nigerian online retailers is currently on Konga at ₦494,000 for 8GB/256GB. More interestingly, Tecno's Official Store on Jumia currently lists the CAMON 50 Pro at ₦505,999, reduced from ₦600,000. There is also a separate Jumia marketplace listing at ₦550,000, demonstrating why buyers should compare sellers before ordering. A realistic current price target is therefore approximately ₦494,000–₦506,000, particularly if buying from Konga or Tecno's Jumia Official Store.

Who Should Buy the CAMON 50 Pro?

The CAMON 50 Pro makes the most sense for mobile photographers who want more than a single useful camera. Having main, 3x telephoto and ultrawide cameras gives you much more flexibility. It's also attractive for content creators, thanks to its large AMOLED screen, 256GB storage and extensive photography and AI editing features.

For heavy everyday users, the 6,150mAh battery is another major attraction. Gamers get a 144Hz display and enhanced cooling, although the Helio G200 Ultimate means this shouldn't be confused with a dedicated flagship gaming phone.

Pros

  • Excellent 50MP Sony main camera with OIS

  • Dedicated 50MP 3x telephoto

  • Useful 8MP ultrawide camera

  • 32MP selfie camera

  • 144Hz 1.5K AMOLED display

  • Large 6,150mAh battery

  • 45W charging

  • IP68/IP69/IP69K protection

  • 256GB storage

  • NFC

  • Dolby Atmos stereo speakers

  • Extensive TECNO AI features

  • iPhone One-Tap Drop

Cons

  • Nigerian model is 4G rather than 5G

  • Helio G200 isn't a flagship processor

  • No wireless charging listed

  • Large 6.78-inch display won't suit everyone

  • AI features may vary by region or require updates

  • Retailer specification sheets can be inconsistent

Final Verdict

The TECNO CAMON 50 Pro is a camera-focused smartphone that actually earns the “Pro” part of its name. The combination of a 50MP Sony OIS main camera, dedicated 50MP 3x telephoto and 8MP ultrawide gives photographers considerably more flexibility than many phones in its class. Its 144Hz 1.5K AMOLED display, 6,150mAh battery, IP68/IP69 protection and growing collection of AI tools make the rest of the package competitive too.

At around ₦494,000 on Konga or ₦505,999 from Tecno's Official Store on Jumia, the CAMON 50 Pro is worth considering if camera versatility, display quality and battery life matter more to you than having 5G connectivity.

For this particular model, I would favor the official TECNO Nigeria specification page over marketplace descriptions, since some current retailer listings incorrectly describe the Nigerian CAMON 50 Pro as a 5G model or show conflicting camera/display specifications.
