Infinix Smart 20 Review: Specs, Features & Price

Budget smartphones are usually about making the right compromises. You want a large screen, decent battery life, enough storage for your apps and a camera that can handle everyday photos. But once you start asking for flagship-level performance or a premium display, the price usually moves up quickly. The Infinix Smart 20 takes a more practical approach. It is built around a MediaTek Helio G81 Ultimate processor, a large 6.78-inch display, a 5,200mAh battery and Android 16. It also includes a 120Hz refresh rate, expandable storage and IP64 protection. That combination makes it an interesting option for people who want a phone for everyday use without spending too much.

But is it actually worth buying in Nigeria?

The Display Is One of Its Strongest Features

The Smart 20 comes with a 6.78-inch HD+ IPS LCD display and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. That is a useful combination for a budget phone. A large screen makes WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and browsing more comfortable, while the 120Hz refresh rate can make scrolling and animations feel smoother.

The compromise is resolution. This is an HD+ panel, not a Full HD+ or AMOLED display. So while the screen is large and smooth, it won't offer the same sharpness, contrast or deep blacks as more expensive phones. For everyday use, though, the display should be perfectly adequate.

Performance: Good for Everyday Tasks

The Smart 20 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultimate, paired with 4GB of RAM. This is an entry-level chipset, so the phone is not designed to compete with performance-focused devices. But for normal tasks, it should be sufficient. WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Chrome and banking apps are the kind of workloads this phone is built for. The 4GB RAM is also worth keeping in mind. It is enough for basic multitasking, but if you regularly keep many demanding apps open, you may notice limitations. And if gaming is your main priority, this is probably not the phone I'd recommend.

5,200mAh Battery for Long Days

Battery life is another major selling point. The Smart 20 has a 5,200mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the 5,000mAh batteries found in many budget phones. For a phone with an entry-level processor and HD+ display, that should provide good endurance for everyday use. Students, commuters and people who spend much of the day away from a wall socket should appreciate that. The limitation is charging speed. The phone comes with a 10W charger, although it supports charging up to 15W. That is not particularly fast, so if you completely drain the battery, you'll need some patience. Still, the Smart 20 is clearly designed more around lasting longer than charging quickly.

Cameras Are Basic

The Smart 20 has an 8MP rear camera and 8MP front camera. That tells you where the phone sits in Infinix's product lineup. The cameras should be adequate for WhatsApp photos, social media, document scanning and everyday snapshots in good lighting. But if photography is your main priority, there are better options.

The Smart 20 is essentially saying: Buy me for battery life, everyday reliability and affordability, not because I'm a camera phone.

Android 16 Is a Welcome Advantage

The Smart 20 runs Android 16 with XOS 16. That gives the phone a modern software foundation and access to newer Android features. For budget buyers, having a newer Android version is a nice advantage, especially if you intend to keep the phone for several years. However, software-update support is still something worth checking before purchasing if long-term security updates are important to you.

Expandable Storage Is a Big Plus

One feature I particularly like is the dedicated microSD card support. The Smart 20 supports storage expansion of up to 2TB, according to Infinix's specifications. That is useful for people who store a lot of photos, videos, music or documents on their phones. It also means you don't necessarily have to spend more money on a higher-storage version just to keep your media files.

IP64 Protection Is a Nice Bonus

The Smart 20 also has IP64 protection, which provides resistance to dust and water splashes. That is useful for everyday situations such as light rain or accidental splashes. But it is important not to confuse IP64 with full waterproofing. This is not a phone you should deliberately submerge in water.

Infinix Smart 20 Price in Nigeria

The Infinix Smart 20 4GB/64GB is currently listed around ₦165,000 on Konga Nigeria. That makes it a budget phone worth considering if you're looking for something around the ₦150,000–₦170,000 range. However, prices can vary depending on the seller, storage configuration and current promotions. The 128GB version may cost more, so it's worth checking the exact model before buying.

Who Should Buy the Smart 20?

This phone makes the most sense for someone who values battery life, a large screen and affordability. A student could use it for WhatsApp, online classes, YouTube and social media. A commuter could appreciate the large battery. And someone who simply wants a reliable phone for everyday tasks may find it a sensible option. But if you're looking for a gaming phone, a camera phone or a device with premium display quality, I'd recommend looking at more expensive options.

Final Verdict

The Infinix Smart 20 is a practical budget smartphone. It doesn't try to compete with more expensive phones on performance or camera quality. Instead, it focuses on the things many budget buyers actually need: a large display, long battery life, expandable storage and a modern Android experience. At around ₦165,000 in Nigeria, it is a reasonable option for someone who wants a basic smartphone without spending too much. The main weaknesses are the entry-level processor, basic cameras and slow charging. But if your priority is simply getting a phone that can handle everyday tasks and last through the day, the Smart 20 makes a decent case for itself.

If you want a budget phone around ₦165,000 that focuses on the essentials, the Infinix Smart 20 is worth considering.
