iOS 27 Review: New Features, Siri AI and Worldwide Availability

Apple officially released iOS 27 on September 14, 2026, bringing one of the biggest changes to the iPhone experience in years. While iOS 26 concentrated heavily on the Liquid Glass redesign, iOS 27 feels more focused on making that interface better while delivering something Apple users have waited years for: a genuinely smarter Siri.

Siri AI can now understand more complicated questions, use information from your screen and personal context, search across apps and even access current information from the web. Apple has also improved Photos, Safari, Messages, Mail, performance, parental controls and system customization.
But there's an important catch: getting iOS 27 doesn't necessarily mean you'll immediately get every Siri AI feature.

Siri AI Is the Biggest Upgrade

Siri has traditionally been good at simple commands such as setting alarms, calling contacts or checking the weather. More complicated conversations have been another story.

Siri AI fundamentally changes that. Apple says the assistant can now understand more natural language, maintain richer conversations and generate substantially more detailed answers.
You can speak naturally or type your request. Instead of asking Siri a perfectly structured command, you can ask something complicated such as planning your free weekends, comparing information, brainstorming an idea or helping write something.
Siri can even provide feedback on documents, build detailed plans and assist with creative brainstorming.

Siri Can Understand What's on Your Screen

One of Siri AI's most useful improvements is on-screen awareness. Suppose someone sends you an address in Messages. Rather than copying it, opening Maps and pasting it manually, Siri can understand what you're currently looking at and help perform a relevant action.
The assistant can answer questions relating to information displayed on the screen and interact with more functions across apps. That transforms Siri from something you mainly summon for isolated voice commands into an assistant that has greater awareness of what you're already doing.

Siri Can Search Your Personal Information

Siri AI also introduces deeper personal-context understanding. Apple says Siri can search across information in your Messages, Mail, Photos and other apps to help answer questions.
Imagine remembering that someone sent you flight information but not remembering whether it arrived through an email or message. Rather than manually searching multiple apps, Siri can use your personal context to help locate the relevant information.
This could become particularly valuable as our phones accumulate years of messages, photographs, documents and emails.

Siri Can Search the Web

Another major change is Siri's ability to access up-to-date information from the web and combine it with broader world knowledge to produce an answer. That makes Siri considerably closer to a modern AI assistant rather than a traditional voice-command system.
It can combine different types of context: what you ask, information available online, what's currently on your screen and, where appropriate, personal information available through your apps. Privacy remains central to Apple's approach, with the company emphasizing an architecture designed to protect personal information while enabling these capabilities.

Siri Mode Comes to the Camera

Here's one of iOS 27's more interesting AI features. Siri Mode in Camera lets you initiate visual searches directly from the camera viewfinder.
Point the iPhone camera toward something and Siri AI can analyze what you're looking at and provide relevant information. That could be useful for identifying objects, understanding something unfamiliar while travelling or learning about something directly in front of you without first taking a photo and opening another app.
Apple currently lists Siri Mode in Camera as an iPhone-only Siri AI feature.

Siri Finally Gets Its Own App

Siri AI now has a dedicated Siri app. The app lets you start a new conversation or return to previous conversations. Apple says conversational history can privately synchronize across your Apple products through iCloud.
That's another major philosophical change. Instead of Siri conversations effectively disappearing after you're finished, users can now treat Siri more like a persistent AI assistant and return to earlier discussions.

Photos Gets Smarter AI Editing

iOS 27 also expands Apple Intelligence beyond Siri. Photos introduces Spatial Reframing, which uses AI to improve the composition of a photograph after you've already taken it. Apple has also upgraded its Clean Up tools for removing unwanted elements.
Image Playground now supports higher-quality photorealistic image generation, expanding it beyond Apple's earlier stylized AI imagery. These tools push Apple Intelligence further into everyday creative work instead of keeping AI isolated inside Siri.

Safari Can Monitor Websites for You

Another particularly useful feature is Notify Me in Safari. You can ask Safari to monitor a webpage for a change for example, when a sold-out product returns to stock or when its price falls.
Instead of repeatedly opening the same webpage yourself, the system can help watch for the change.
For online shoppers, travellers watching prices or anyone waiting for a registration page to open, this could become one of iOS 27's most practical AI features.

Messages and Mail Get More Intelligent

Apple Intelligence is also becoming more proactive inside everyday communication apps. Messages can recognize conversational context and provide one-tap suggestions, such as creating a reminder or note based on something someone mentioned.
Mail gains smarter search, summaries, priority messages and Smart Reply capabilities. Apple also lists Live Translation across Messages, Phone and FaceTime, with compatible AirPods supporting Live Translation as well.

Liquid Glass Gets More Customization

Apple hasn't abandoned the Liquid Glass design introduced with iOS 26.
Instead, iOS 27 refines it. There's now a Liquid Glass opacity slider, allowing users to adjust the interface from clearer glass toward a more tinted appearance. Apple has also worked on uniform refraction, readability and contrast.
Other interface improvements include updated app icons, larger widgets and more granular controls for different system sounds.

iOS 27 Should Feel Faster Too

Not everything in iOS 27 is AI. Apple says it has improved areas including memory usage, CPU utilization, display rendering and search. Apps should launch faster, AirDrop transfers are faster, and switching between cellular networks and Wi-Fi should be smoother.
Those improvements may ultimately matter more to many users than flashy new features because they affect everyday interaction with the phone.

Which iPhones Get iOS 27?

There's an important distinction between iOS 27 compatibility and Siri AI compatibility. iOS 27 itself supports iPhone 11 and newer compatible models.
However, Siri AI and the latest Apple Intelligence capabilities require significantly newer hardware.
Apple says Apple Intelligence on iPhone requires:

  • iPhone 15 Pro

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max

  • iPhone 16 series and newer

That means an iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14 or standard iPhone 15 may receive iOS 27 without gaining the headline Siri AI experience.

When Will Siri AI Be Available Worldwide?

This is where Apple's rollout becomes complicated. iOS 27 itself is available now, but Siri AI is rolling out separately.
At launch, Apple lists Siri AI as available in English, with expressive voices initially supporting U.S. and UK English. Apple has said it will quickly expand Siri AI into additional languages. Reporting around the release indicates languages including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish are expected to begin arriving in October.

But Siri AI isn't literally worldwide yet. Apple's current feature-availability page says:

Siri AI is not available in mainland China or the European Union on iPhone at launch.

Apple previously said Mac and Apple Vision Pro users in the EU would gain access when using a supported language, while iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch availability in the EU would come later. China remains dependent on regulatory requirements.
So there isn't currently one date when Siri AI suddenly becomes available everywhere. The rollout is device-, language- and region-dependent.

Final Verdict

iOS 27 isn't simply another annual collection of iPhone features. Its biggest achievement could be turning Siri into the AI assistant Apple users have been waiting for. Personal-context understanding, screen awareness, web knowledge, deeper app actions, natural conversations, visual intelligence through the Camera and persistent conversations inside the dedicated Siri app fundamentally expand what Siri can do.
Then there are improvements throughout Photos, Safari, Messages, Mail, Liquid Glass, performance and child safety.
The biggest weakness is availability. You can install iOS 27 now, but getting the complete Siri AI experience depends on owning sufficiently recent hardware, using a supported language and living in a supported region.

For owners of an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone, however, iOS 27 looks like one of Apple's most consequential iPhone software updates in years — largely because Siri is finally becoming much more than a voice-command tool.
