Redmi 17 vs Tecno Pova 6 Neo: 7,000mAh+ Battery and Camera Compared

If battery life is your number-one priority, the Redmi 17 and Tecno Pova 6 Neo are two phones worth considering in Nigeria. Both are built around unusually large batteries: the Redmi 17 has a 7,500mAh battery, while the Tecno Pova 6 Neo comes with 7,000mAh. But battery capacity is only part of the story. Display quality, processor performance, charging speed, software, storage and price can make one a better purchase than the other.

The Redmi 17 is the newer option and brings a 7,500mAh battery, 45W charging, a 120Hz 6.9-inch display and Android 16/HyperOS 3. The Pova 6 Neo, meanwhile, uses a 7,000mAh battery, MediaTek Helio G99 Ultimate processor, 8GB RAM and a 6.78-inch 120Hz FHD+ display.

So, which one gives you more value for your money?

Battery: Redmi 17 Wins on Capacity

If you are buying primarily because you want the biggest battery possible, the Redmi 17 has the advantage. Its 7,500mAh battery is 500mAh larger than the Pova 6 Neo's 7,000mAh battery. Xiaomi claims up to 91 hours of music playback and up to 28 hours of video playback under its testing conditions. It also supports 45W turbo charging and up to 22.5W wired reverse charging. That reverse charging feature is particularly useful. You can use the Redmi 17 as a small emergency power source for compatible accessories or another phone.

The Pova 6 Neo is still impressive at 7,000mAh. For someone who spends long periods on WhatsApp, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, gaming or mobile browsing, the battery should be one of its biggest strengths.

Winner: Redmi 17

Display: Pova 6 Neo Has the Better Screen

This is an area where the Pova 6 Neo makes a strong comeback. The Redmi 17 has a huge 6.9-inch 1600 × 720 display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Xiaomi also uses Gorilla Glass 7i and advertises brightness of up to 825 nits HBM. However, the Pova 6 Neo has a 6.78-inch 1080 × 2460 FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. That higher resolution matters when reading text, browsing websites, watching high-resolution videos or playing games. The Redmi 17's screen is physically larger, but the Pova 6 Neo gives you more pixels.

Winner: Tecno Pova 6 Neo

Performance: Pova 6 Neo Has the Advantage

The Redmi 17 uses the MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra, an octa-core 4G processor running at up to 2.0GHz. The Pova 6 Neo uses the MediaTek Helio G99 Ultimate. Tecno pairs it with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

For everyday tasks, both phones should handle WhatsApp, social media, streaming, browsing and normal multitasking. But for users who care about gaming and sustained performance, the Pova 6 Neo is the more attractive specification. Its FHD+ 120Hz screen also makes it better suited to people who want a more detailed gaming and entertainment experience. And Tecno has released a new Pova version with more upgraded features.

Winner: Tecno Pova 6 Neo

Storage and Multitasking

The Redmi 17 is available in 4GB + 128GB, 6GB + 128GB and 6GB + 256GB configurations, and Xiaomi supports memory extension on the 6GB model. It also supports microSD expansion up to 2TB.

The Pova 6 Neo comes with 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB storage, according to Tecno's specifications.

For someone who keeps many applications open, 8GB physical RAM gives the Pova 6 Neo an advantage. However, the Redmi 17's microSD support is valuable if you store lots of videos, music, photos or documents.

Winner: Pova 6 Neo for RAM; Redmi 17 for expandable storage.

Camera

Neither phone is really positioned as a camera flagship. The Redmi 17 has a 50MP main camera and 8MP front camera. It supports 1080p video recording at 30fps. The Pova 6 Neo also has a 50MP rear camera and 8MP selfie camera, with Tecno listing support for up to 2K video recording.

On paper, the Pova 6 Neo therefore has an interesting advantage in video specifications, although megapixel counts alone don't determine real-world image quality.

Winner: Pova 6 Neo, but don't buy either primarily for photos.

Nigerian Price: Which Is Cheaper?

Prices vary considerably between Nigerian retailers, so it is important to check the exact RAM and storage configuration before buying. At the time of checking, Konga lists the Redmi 17 6GB/128GB at ₦283,900, while another Konga listing has it at ₦277,000.

Pointek lists the Redmi 17 at ₦213,400 for 4GB/128GB, ₦271,700 for 6GB/128GB and ₦302,200 for 6GB/256GB.

For the Pova 6 Neo, current Nigerian listings put the 8GB/128GB around ₦199,500 and 8GB/256GB around ₦229,000.

That gives Tecno a significant price advantage, particularly if you want 8GB RAM and 256GB storage without spending around ₦300,000.

Redmi 17 vs Pova 6 Neo: Which Should You Buy?

The answer depends on what you actually need.

Choose the Redmi 17 if battery life comes first:
The Redmi 17 is the better choice if your main reason for upgrading is maximum battery capacity. You get 7,500mAh, 45W charging, reverse charging, IP64 protection, a 6.9-inch 120Hz screen and newer Android 16/HyperOS 3 software. It is particularly appealing for Nigerians who spend long hours away from a power outlet—students, commuters, field workers, drivers and people who frequently experience unreliable access to electricity.

Choose the Pova 6 Neo if you want better value:
The Pova 6 Neo makes more sense if you want to spend less while getting 8GB RAM, a Full HD+ 120Hz screen, Helio G99 Ultimate performance and a 7,000mAh battery. For gaming and entertainment, its higher-resolution display and stronger processor specification make it particularly attractive.

Final Verdict

If we judge these phones strictly by battery capacity, the Redmi 17 wins with 7,500mAh. But if we consider the entire package, the decision is much closer.

Redmi 17: better battery, faster 45W charging, newer software, reverse charging and IP64 protection.

Pova 6 Neo: better-resolution display, 8GB RAM, stronger processor specification and generally lower Nigerian pricing.

For a buyer whose biggest concern is battery endurance, I would choose the Redmi 17. For someone who wants the best combination of gaming performance, display quality, RAM and price, the Tecno Pova 6 Neo is arguably the better bargain. In other words, the Redmi 17 is the battery champion, while the Pova 6 Neo offers a more balanced performance package for the money.
