Huawei Pura X View Review: The Wide-Screen Phone With a Huge 7,000mAh Battery

Huawei is trying something unusual with its latest flagship. Instead of making another tall smartphone or another foldable, the company has introduced the Huawei Pura X View, a conventional non-folding phone with an unusually wide 16:9.5 display.

Huawei unveiled the phone in China on August 20, 2026, positioning it as a new type of large-screen smartphone. The biggest attractions are its wide OLED panel, extremely thin bezels and unusually large 7,000mAh battery.

For Nigerian buyers interested in something different from the usual Samsung, iPhone or Xiaomi flagship, the Pura X View is certainly worth watching.

The Wide Display Is the Main Attraction

The Pura X View doesn't look like most smartphones. Instead of the increasingly common 19.5:9 or 20:9 tall screen, Huawei uses a 16:9.5 wide format. The 6.39-inch OLED display has four extremely narrow 1.05mm bezels, helping the phone achieve a claimed 96.1% screen-to-body ratio. Huawei says the wider design is intended to improve activities such as reading, gaming, watching videos and mobile productivity.

This could be particularly interesting for people who use their phone for documents, spreadsheets, comics, multitasking or watching 16:9 videos. The 120Hz OLED panel should also make scrolling and supported animations feel smoother than a standard 60Hz display.

A 7,000mAh Battery in a 6.68mm Body

The other impressive specification is the battery. Huawei has managed to fit a 7,000mAh battery into a phone measuring only 6.68mm thick and weighing approximately 201g. That combination could make battery life one of the Pura X View's strongest advantages.

For Nigerian users who spend significant time away from reliable charging points, a large battery can be more valuable than chasing the thinnest possible smartphone. However, actual battery life will depend on brightness, mobile-network usage, gaming and other factors, so the 7,000mAh figure should not automatically be interpreted as a specific number of hours.

Storage Should Not Be a Problem

Huawei is offering the Pura X View with 12GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB. The 1TB version could appeal particularly to users who record lots of videos, download large games or keep substantial offline media libraries. The four reported colours are Phantom Black, Zero White, Shadow Red and Linen Gray, giving the phone a more conventional flagship colour selection despite its unusual shape.

Huawei Pura X View Release Date

This is where the launch timeline has changed. Huawei unveiled the Pura X View on August 20, 2026, and initially opened reservations. The company later announced that the phone will make its first sale on September 7, 2026, alongside the Huawei Mate XT 2 launch. Huawei Consumer Business CEO He Gang revealed the September 7 sales date on August 25.

So Nigerian buyers shouldn't expect widespread retail availability immediately. At present, the information available points primarily to the Chinese market, and Huawei has not confirmed a Nigerian launch.

Huawei Pura X View Price in Nigeria

This is the tricky part. Huawei has not officially announced the final retail price of the Pura X View yet. Several Chinese reports have predicted a starting price around ¥6,999 for the 12GB/256GB model, with higher storage versions potentially costing more.

At the current exchange rate of roughly ₦200 per ¥1, ¥6,999 converts to approximately ₦1.4 million before shipping, taxes, importer margins and other Nigerian retail costs. Therefore, ₦1.4 million should only be treated as a rough converted price, not the Nigerian retail price. If the phone reaches Nigerian importers, the actual selling price could be considerably higher.

Should Nigerians Buy the Pura X View?

The Pura X View is an interesting flagship because Huawei isn't simply competing on cameras or processor performance. Its selling point is the wide-screen experience.

For people who read extensively, watch videos, play games or want a phone that feels different from conventional tall smartphones, the design is genuinely interesting. The 7,000mAh battery is another major advantage on paper.

But there are reasons to wait. Huawei has not yet confirmed the final price, Nigerian availability or all of the specifications. Buyers also need to consider Huawei's software ecosystem before spending flagship money on an imported device.

Final Verdict

The Huawei Pura X View is one of the most unusual smartphones of 2026. Its 16:9.5 OLED display, 7,000mAh battery, 201g body and 6.68mm thickness make it stand out in a market dominated by similar-looking smartphones.

Release date: September 7, 2026
Estimated converted starting price: about ₦1.4 million
Expected Nigerian imported price: likely higher, once taxes, shipping and retailer margins are included.

For Nigerian buyers, I'd wait for the official price and real-world reviews before importing one. The hardware looks exciting, but at flagship money, software compatibility and after-sales support matter just as much as the specifications.
