iPhone Duo vs Galaxy Z Fold8 vs Xiaomi 18 Fold vs Huawei Pura X Max: Which Should You Buy?

Foldable phones have entered a fascinating new phase. The iPhone Duo, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, Xiaomi 18 Fold and Huawei Pura X Max all use relatively wide book-style designs, but each manufacturer has taken a different route.

Apple emphasizes ecosystem and software. Samsung has produced an extraordinarily light Fold. Xiaomi goes aggressively after battery and camera specifications, while Huawei combines a large display with a sophisticated XMAGE camera system.

So which one deserves your money?

Apple officially starts iPhone Duo at $1,999 and will begin availability on October 23. Xiaomi's 18 Fold starts at ¥10,999, with Chinese sales beginning September 10, while Huawei also lists Pura X Max from ¥10,999.

Samsung Wins Portability

The Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs only 201g and measures 9.7mm when folded, an impressive achievement for a 7.6-inch foldable. Xiaomi comes next at 219g, while Huawei is around 229g. Apple's Duo is the heavyweight at 254g.
Samsung therefore makes the most sense if you want a foldable that doesn't constantly remind you of its size in your pocket.

Winner: Galaxy Z Fold8

Xiaomi Wins Battery and Charging

Xiaomi has taken the opposite approach: maximize hardware. The 18 Fold packs a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Huawei follows with a 5,300mAh battery, 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Samsung's 4,800mAh battery is noticeably smaller, while Apple doesn't disclose the Duo's battery capacity and instead provides usage estimates.
For buyers dealing with long days away from a charger, Xiaomi looks strongest on paper.

Winner: Xiaomi 18 Fold

Cameras: Xiaomi and Huawei Pull Ahead

Apple's Duo combines 48MP Main and 48MP Ultra Wide cameras, while Samsung uses two 50MP rear cameras. Neither has a dedicated long-range telephoto.
Xiaomi does. The 18 Fold has a 200MP Leica main camera, 50MP 3.5x periscope telephoto and 50MP Ultra Wide.
Huawei takes an equally serious approach with its XMAGE system: a 50MP main camera with ten-step physical variable aperture, 12.5MP Ultra Wide and 50MP 3.5x periscope telephoto with OIS. Huawei also supports up to 100x digital zoom.

Apple may remain particularly attractive for video, but for camera hardware and optical versatility, Xiaomi and Huawei have the advantage.

Camera hardware winner: Xiaomi 18 Fold

Apple Wins Ecosystem; Samsung Wins Productivity

iPhone Duo's real advantage isn't megapixels. It's iOS, A20 Pro, Apple Intelligence and integration with Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods and the broader Apple ecosystem. Its 7.6-inch display even supports Apple Pencil USB-C.
Samsung counters with years of foldable-software experience, Galaxy AI and Samsung DeX, making Fold8 particularly attractive for business users and multitasking.
Xiaomi offers powerful Android multitasking through HyperOS, while Huawei runs HarmonyOS 7. The latter is worth considering carefully for Nigerian buyers accustomed to Google's ecosystem, particularly if importing a Chinese-market device.

Ecosystem winner: iPhone Duo

Productivity winner: Galaxy Z Fold8

Which Offers the Best Value?

Samsung is currently the easiest of these four to price realistically in Nigeria.
A current Konga listing puts the Galaxy Z Fold8 12GB/256GB at ₦2.2 million, while a 512GB Jumia listing is ₦2.65 million.
The other figures require caution. The iPhone Duo hasn't reached retail availability yet, so ₦3.5m–₦4.5m remains an early-import estimate. Xiaomi has no confirmed Nigerian launch, so roughly ₦2.5m–₦3.2m is a safer import-budget estimate rather than a local MSRP.
Huawei is similarly difficult to price reliably through official Nigerian channels. Third
party Nigerian pricing databases quote around ₦3 million, but we wouldn't call that an official Huawei Nigeria price without local retail confirmation.

Which Foldable Should You Buy?

For the best hardware value, choose the Xiaomi 18 Fold. Its 6,000mAh battery, 200MP Leica camera, 3.5x periscope, 50W wireless charging and 219g body are exceptional specifications for ¥10,999.
For the best productivity experience, Galaxy Z Fold8 remains the safest recommendation. It's also the lightest phone here and the easiest to buy locally.
Choose iPhone Duo if you're already heavily invested in Apple's ecosystem and want Apple's first foldable without moving to Android.
Choose Huawei Pura X Max if camera versatility, its 7.7-inch display and HarmonyOS appeal to you, but understand the software and import considerations before buying.

Final Verdict

  1. Xiaomi 18 Fold — 9.4/10: Best hardware value

  2. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 — 9.3/10: Best all-round practical buy

  3. iPhone Duo — 9.2/10: Best for Apple users

  4. Huawei Pura X Max — 9.1/10: Best Huawei foldable alternative

The Xiaomi 18 Fold wins on specifications and value, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 is arguably the smartest practical purchase. Samsung gives you an extraordinarily light 201g body, mature foldable software, DeX and actual local availability.

The iPhone Duo is the ecosystem choice, while Huawei offers some of the most sophisticated camera hardware of the group.

If I had to choose one purely from hardware and launch price, Xiaomi 18 Fold wins. If I were buying one locally today and wanted the fewest compromises around availability, software and support, Galaxy Z Fold8 would be the safer buy.
